The Challenge

This project required an environmental enclosure to be installed within the client's 500,000 square foot distribution center in order to properly house medical supplies. The area would need to be accessible by forklift, while also maintaining the required temperature inside of the facility to ensure proper storage of the product.

The Solution

The client was originally looking at conventional construction as an alternative, but decided to go with PortaFab based on the R-value of insulation available with the SteelSpan product line, the speed of installation, and the flexibility of the product, which can be reconfigured in the future if needed.

PortaFab supplied single pieced panels up to 28 feet tall, which also met the necessary R-value of 24 required for proper climate control in the area. Due to the size of the individual panels, PortaFab worked closely with the distributer and installer detailing the attachment of the panels to the existing roof structure to ensure structural integrity.

To allow for the entry and exit of fork lifts within the structure, PortaFab devised the idea of utilizing high-speed roll up doors, which would allow quick entrances and exits while maintaining the environmental conditions within the enclosure.

Medical Equipment Storage

The use of modular construction provided added flexibility for the client given the variety of products and needs of the company. Since completing this project, our SteelSpan walls have already been reconfigured based on the needs of their robust distribution center.
