Fastening with Rivets

Through Fastening
Blind rivet attachment of Formacore panels – Edge returns to aluminum extrusions or other framing is shown in Figure 4-7. Rivets should be closed end stainless steel or aluminum. NOTE: Use of rivets on exposed face conditions is NOT recommended due to dimpling of face element occurring when rivets are pulled. Depending on actual job conditions, the use of structural silicone adhesive may also have to be used along with rivets.

Concealed Fastening

Blind rivets can be used to secure intermittent panel stiffeners or other aluminum extrusions to Formacore panels without penetrating the face element. Refer to Figure 4-8. Rivets should be closed end stainless steel or aluminum. NOTE: Caution must be exercised when determining the correct rivet grip t use and when drilling into back of the Formacore panel. Due to low pullout values of rivets through the .020” thick liner element, it is recommended that the rivets serve only as temporary attachment until the structural silicone adhesive cures.
