The Situation
Airtex Products had an initial request for an equipment enclosure room, to improve their quality control process. It was discovered that Airtex Products had plans to build other areas with conventional “stick” construction due to the consolidation of 3 facilities into 1 facility in the near future.
The Evaluation
PortaFab recognized there were more opportunities and educated Airtex Products to an alternate solution to their construction needs, and proved the capabilities of modular construction to be unlimited.
The Solution
PortaFab supplied the fuel pump supplier with XTRA-TALL wall systems to separate their distribution area from an assembly area that needed to be climate controlled. The challenging aspect was to tie the walls into the existing ceiling structure because of multiple obstructions and wall height variations.
Airtex Products was faced with a real space problem to accommodate their requirements for a 2-story building. This application was difficult due to the lack of overhead clear height, and the building needing to fit underneath existing bar-joists. PortaFab modular walls were used to maximize the useable space through precision field measurement and engineering.
Ten individual Department Offices were placed throughout the manufacturing and distribution areas of the facility to centralize the individual department managers and respective employees.
As a result of doing work at the fuel pump supplier’s facility, the company developed their own specifications for the modular buildings. This was based on visiting PortaFab’s corporate facility in St. Louis and taking Airtex’s strategic decision team to various jobsites to highlight PortaFab’s capabilities.
In addition to all of the modular construction provided, PortaFab also supplied secondary products including border guards, overhead and high-speed rollup doors, Hi-Density shelving and much more.
In-Plant Installation to Fit Changing Plans
When planning modular in-plant office installations that require maximum flexibility, the PortaFab building systems are an excellent choice. They can accommodate virtually any design and are easily modified for relocation or additions. Because the system is non-progressive, modifications are quick and can be done without reassembling the entire unit. For even greater flexibility and better space utilization, the system is available in two-story and load-bearing applications. The Fire and Sound Control option is very popular for manufacturing areas and provides maximum fire protection, as well as sound and thermal insulation.
