Surface Materials

The surface material options for sandwich panel construction are practically limitless. At PortaFab, we will work with you to find the most cost effective solution for your application. Some of our most common materials are listed below.

Aluminum
Aluminum panels are extremely popular because they are lightweight and very strong. Ideal for applications requiring movement or portability, they are very resistant to moisture, fungi, corrosion, and cleaning agents. Aluminum is noncombustible and comes in a wide variety of decorative finishes.

Steel
Steel panels are ideal for applications requiring excellent strength and impact resistance. They are used extensively in the industrial construction for this reason. Steel can also be painted or finished easily and is available in corrosion resistant stainless variety.

High Pressure Laminates
Low cost panels often chosen for their variety of finishes.

FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic)
Ideal for outdoor applications that require moisture and corrosion control, FRP panels are stronger than plastic sheet and come in a variety of colors.

Plastic Sheet
There are numerous plastic materials that can be used as panel surface materials. While each one (PE, ABS, Polypropylene, etc..) will have their own characteristics, most are lightweight and have excellent resistance to impact, corrosion, and moisture. They also come in a wide variety of colors and textures.

Wood
Standard building materials like plywood, MDF, veneer, and hardboard can also be used as a surface material. Wood panels are typically very cost effective and strong, but lack many of the physical properties other materials.
