Saw Cutting

Formacore panels can be cut using industrial or professional type saw equipment such as table, panel, saber, band, or portable saws, all using carbide-tipped blades. Actual type used is determined by fabricator’s equipment and if its cutter location allows for maneuvering the Formacore panels. Read more…

A clean smooth table is required to prevent damage to the painted panel surface. The strippable film coating should remain on the panel during fabrication.

The cleanest and truest cuts are made using a movable head, while the Formacore panel is securely clamped in-place. NOTE: Clamping is necessary to prevent any vibrations during sawing. Possibly the best way is using a portable circular saw with a carbide-tipped blade in conjunction with edge guides and having the Formacore panel securely clamped in-place with face side down. This allows the circular saw to travel across the Formacore panel with the saw base bearing on the liner surface.

Saber or reciprocating saws are recommended to make corner notches required for panel edge bends. Refer to Figures 3-7, 3-8, 3-9 and 3-10. Hand held metal shears might also be used to remove corner cutouts.

Multiple Formacore panels can be easily cut using a circular saw. Place the bottom sheets face up to prevent burring on the face element. The top sheet must be placed face down to protect the face element. Care must be taken to insure that each sheet is properly aligned before cutting.
