Unique configuration required to expand onto existing modular offices & accommodate plant layout

The Situation
McCormick Foods, a leading manufacturer of spices and seasonings, was undergoing a reconfiguration and expansion in their Hunt Valley Maryland plant and needed additional office space for their process engineers and managers along with a meeting room for temp agency personnel. All of this had to be accomplished without creating construction mess or disrupting plant operations. In addition, valuable floor space could not be taken away from productions activities.

The Evaluation
McCormick knew of the high quality and flexibility of the PortaFab products since they had used them in various applications in the past.

To maximize their floor space, they chose an office complex to house the engineers and managers on one level and provide a meeting room on the other. A single story office with loadbearing roof was also chosen. The loadbearing roof would be used as records storage at the present time and could be converted to office space in the future.

The Solution
The three inch thick wall system was selected because of its ability to be expanded and to provide superior loadbearing capability. With its exceptional free-span capabilities, Series III provided more interior space on the first level by avoiding costly support columns for the two-story and loadbearing roof installations. The nonprogressive construction of the Series III walls enables the buildings to be easily expanded or relocated by removing individual panels, including doors and windows, without disturbing the rest of the building as McCormick's needs change.

The installation of the office complex was completed within only two weeks without disturbing McCormick's operations or creating an unsightly mess. "The project went very smoothly, just as we expected," said Ray Ferro of McCormick. "We were very pleased with PortaFab in the past which is why we chose them again."
